Lumi pulled her coat closer as she stepped outside,
expecting the streets to be dark and empty.

But instead,
she stopped in surprise.

Tiny lights floated gently in the air,
resting on windowsills,
hanging from trees,
lining the snowy paths like stars that had fallen to the ground.

One by one, people stepped outside their homes.
No one spoke at first.

A child held a small lantern,
an elderly woman cupped a candle in her hands,
someone placed a glowing light beside a letter left on a bench.

Lumi realized then—
this was the Winter Light Festival.

A night when unspoken wishes were allowed to shine,
when sadness didn’t need to hide,
when hope could exist without explanation.

Lumi held her own small light carefully.
